Introduction to the Marketing Lyfe Podcast Ep. 120
Episode one 20 of the marketing live podcast. This is Taylor Timothy, your host. And today, guys, I want to talk about using the campaign budget optimization tool and how to properly scale. Yeah. Um, I’m sharing this because I did something wrong and I’m here to share the information of what not to do to be quite honest with you. So let’s not waste any more time and dive right in.
Campaign Budget Optimization Tool
Okay guys. So the information I want to share with you guys today is like I said, how to properly scale using the campaign budget optimization tool. No.
What I did Wrong with Scaling
Now the reason why I bring this to you is I’m currently running a campaign for an eCommerce. And basically what had happened is we’re trying to scale it and what I did wrong and realizing now the fact that it’s over what I did wrong and what I’m going to do differently and how you guys can do this properly.
Add More Ad Sets to Your Campaign
So naturally speaking, when using the campaign budget optimization tool, you want to add more ad sets to your campaign.
Increase Your Budget
Um, and you want to crank up the budget as you go to help scale your campaigns. And this is what I did wrong. And I will tell you, and be blatantly honest, this is what I did. And I found out it did not work and I won’t ever do it again.
So basically we’re spending $200 a day on one of the campaigns. And I went back and saw some previous ad sets that we had used that I said, okay, I want to add these to this campaign to see if we can scale it and get the results we’re looking for.
Added Audiences in Campaign Budget Optimization
What I did is I took all the campaigns that were, that had worked or the audiences that had worked. And I added all those audiences inside of the campaign budget optimization, and it completely tanked. I added approximately 20 different audiences to this campaign. And basically what had happened is the campaign immediately started spending money on the audiences that weren’t, that were brand new. So we had audiences in there that were converting super well, and it literally just through the entire campaign for a loop.
What I Should Have Done Using the Campaign Optimization Tool
What I found after all sudden done what I should have done when using the campaign budget optimization tool
Add Limited Number of Audiences
Using that style of campaign inside of Facebook, what you should probably do is only spend or only add, add is the right word. Only add one to two new audiences as an ad group, every single time you’re trying to grow it, to build it out.
Use Bid Strategy on Ad Set Level
Now, if you want to add a ton of audiences immediately, then I recommend that you don’t use the campaign budget optimization tool and use the bid strategy on the ad set level. The reason why is because then your ad sets that are working will constantly, they’ll still be spending the money that you want them to spend. So if you’re spending $20 a day or something on that ad set, it’ll continue to spend and try and spend that money on that audience instead of dumping all your money elsewhere.
Am I a fan of the Campaign Optimization Tool?
So am I a fan of the campaign budget optimization tool after all sudden done? I don’t know if I will use it again. The reason why is because I want to have more control of scaling, of scaling my campaigns. I feel like by using the campaign budget optimization tool, it’s not going to allow you to fully scale it properly.
Now I’ll get back to you guys on this on more information, but I’m actually doing a test right now of just using the bid strategy. Sorry, not the bid strategy. I’m bidding on the ad set level to see if I can fix this problem. Let’s just say so it’s just crazy because before this campaign. Before I tanked it, basically we were getting a row as of like $4 on a specific audience. And what happened is I added all of them and it stopped spending the money there and spend it elsewhere. Then I haven’t been able to get conversions again, back on that, that ad set level.
If you want to properly scale, don’t use campaign budget optimization tool… yet
So, or that particular audience. So after all of a sudden done, if you properly want to scale campaigns, I would say don’t use the campaign budget optimization tool right now.
Add Ad Set Time
That’s what I’ll tell ya. So go through. And if you are using the campaign budget optimization tool, just add an ad set at a time and see how that works. But like I said, right now, I think the proper way to actually scale using Facebook is not by using the campaign bot budge optimization tool and just going and bidding on the ad set levels.
I’ll keep you guys posted. Um, it’s hard to come out and say that just because we are using, I’m still using the campaign budget optimization tool and it’s actually producing well, it’s getting some good results. Um, by think to properly scale, we’re going to have to go to the ad set level of bidding. I know that was a lot of information, but I’m here to help you guys. I said, I’ll keep you guys posted. I’ll do another podcast probably in a month following up with these ad results as well.
