Introduction To The Marketing Lyfe Podcast Ep. 30

Episode number 30 of the marketing life podcasts. This is Taylor Timothy, your host guys. We just hit 1000 listens. Can I just say I am fired up? It’s cool watching this podcast slowly grow and obviously it takes time. You know a lot of people that I’ve talked to about podcasts and getting them to grow, it’s all about being consistent. So I’m just going to keep on posting and keep on creating these podcasts for you guys.

I’m hoping that you guys are learning stuff about online marketing and how you can become a better online marketer and generate more results. That is the goal of this podcast and obviously me, my purpose, my mission is I want to help small businesses grow. You know, I call myself the one-stop shop or online marketing. That’s why I do video photography and obviously websites and generating leads. You know, that’s my goal to help small businesses grow. So today we are going to be talking about why you should get good web hosting. So let’s not waste any more time and dive right in.

What Is Web Hosting?

So let’s talk about web hosting for those new people out there that are getting into online marketing. Basically web hosting is a place that you store your website online. So it’s basically a server somewhere that you store everything for your website. So what are some web hosts out there? I’ll just throw out some names. GoDaddy, HostGator, a WP engine. I’m a huge advocate of it. You have Google that just released or just somewhat recently started. Um, they’re hosting as well that you can host your website. So there’s a bunch of different hosts out there, but I will say that there’s pros to spending a little bit more money on your web hosting versus going super cheap.

Cheap Web Hosting Produces Failed Results, Use More Expensive Web Hosting For Quality Results

So I’m going to start off with a story telling you guys about a time that I went cheap with my web host. So when I first got started with online marketing, I was helping a bunch of like friends and obviously my website.

Um, I was hosting it over on this cheap host. And so I had about six or seven websites over there on this cheap host. And one morning after about a year of having them hosted over there, I get an email from this particular host and it said that I have now have a virus on one of my accounts over there. And it basically blocked every single website out there.

I get on the phone with the, the host and I say, what do I gotta do? Dah, Dah, Dah, Dah. And they said, well, we can try a few things for free, but I’m unfortunately those things, you know, after a while they told me it didn’t work and they’re going to have to charge me $300 to restore these websites. And I’m like, are you kidding me? 300 bucks because you guys didn’t make my server secure or whatever. Right. I was ticked. Um, at the end of the day I told them no. And I said, I want to close all my accounts. And basically I just went back to the basics and restarted over.

Um, so obviously those six websites were a loss for me. You know, I’d spend who knows how many hours, you know, creating them. And then the next thing I know they’re gone and it just wasn’t worth it. I was just too pissed and I said, I’m just going to restart.

Don’t Settle For Generic Hosting, Use WordPress

So I started using WP engine and I haven’t had a problem since when I started working for the agency. Way Back when, when I started, we use WP engine and I have yet to have a website get hacked. I have yet to have a website crash. And overall it saved me a lot of time and money and I’ve been using WP engine ever since anybody that comes to me and says, what, how should I use? It’s always WP engine and I don’t get paid to say that. I’m just a huge advocate for it. So I highly recommend, you know, spending money up front for a good web host just so you don’t lose any time or money, you know, time is money and it’s your face of your business.

Four Reasons Why You Should Spend More Money On Web Host Services

1. Your Website Is Automatically Secure

So getting into my four reasons why you should spend more money on a good web host such as WP engine. I’m sure there’s other good people out there as well, but number one thing, at least WP engine, they automatically give you an SSL certificate. So right up front, what that means is your website is now, you know, secure. You know, you’ll get the padlock over on your website and a lot of people find that it’s more reliable and then diving into SEO. Now Google says like you have to have an SSL certificate on your website. So basically that’s changing your URL from http to https and you’re getting a secure website.

2. Reliable Technology Support

The other thing that I ran into, when you know using bad hosting, you have bad tech support. So you know, it takes 20 to 25 minutes just to get someone on the phone to help you. Most good hosts out there have really fast and reliable support. So you know, talking about the one I use, basically you get tech support and they’re right there with you in 10 minutes. Like anytime I’ve had a problem, they’ve helped me fix it within five to 10 minutes of talking to them and I get on my way and get back to work. So, you know, bad support can be a pain in the butt. Again, it’s wasting time, it’s wasting money.

3. Faster Load Speeds For Your Website

Um, the next thing I want to talk about is slower site speeds. So a lot of times your servers, if they’re on a cheaper host, your website loads slower. And what that means for you is obviously one bad user experience. So if anybody’s coming to your website and it takes a long time for it to load because of the servers, then you are making them leave and you’re losing potential business. So slower sites speeds due to bad host. I highly recommend, you know, getting a good host just for that, you know, looking into that even deeper, you know, obviously that’s going to affect your conversion rates. So the slower your site loads, the lower your conversion rate will be. It’s just fact.

4. Your Website Is The Face Of Your Business

The next thing I want to talk about is just, it’s the f your website guys is the face of your business. You know, like I’ve said before in recent podcasts and past podcasts, and I’ll probably say in future podcasts too. Basically if your business looks crappy online, they’re going to assume as well that your business just isn’t that well when they go into it or wherever.

So I just go back to it’s the face of your business, you know, you guys, do you guys want a car that starts every now and again or do you want a car that starts every time and how, that’s how I look at it for your business, for your website is you want your website to constantly be going, not crashing, always be running and in the end of the day you guys are just going to save a lot of time and money. I mean if you have a web guy that has, that’s always going in having to fix your website because due to custom code or bad servers, like you’re wasting money there as well.

But like I said, guys, if you have a good web host, you won’t have to pay for this stuff. Basically. It’s always going to be running. It’s always going to be functioning and you’re not going to waste any money. So basically all after all said and done to wrap things up, you get, most of the time you get a free SSL certificate, which is usually going to make up for the costs anyways. You’re going to get bad tech support if you have crappy hosting, you’re going to have slower sites speeds if you have crappy hosting and better yet talking about the face of your business, it’s just going to help you guys grow.
