Introduction To Five Tips And Tricks To Networking
What’s up guys, it’s Taylor Timothy, and today I want to share five tips on what I believe you guys should be doing when you guys go and network with people. Now I went to an event last week, I did some of these things and I didn’t do some of these things. So I will be applying these next time I go out and network. So let’s not waste any more time and dive right in.
Look Presentable
I want to talk about is looking presentable, but on the same side you guys have got to be yourself. So what I do personally is I love my hats so I always wear my hat. The other thing I always do is I always wear a tee shirt because I like to be comfortable in a tee shirt. But what I do to make myself look more presentable on standout from the rest is I buy a sports coat and I just wear a sports coat over my tee shirt with my hat. Now this helps you look presentable. And the other thing is you don’t look too dressy, but you look dressy enough. So the big takeaway from this, it’s just make sure that you guys are yourself, but make sure that you’re presentable as well.
Refreshing Breath Is A MUST
The second thing is make sure you guys take gum, take minutes, things like that.
You’re going to be talking to people so don’t have bad breath. A lot of these networking events have foods. You’re going to catch herself eating, you’re going to eat some of the cookies, you’re gonna need some of the chips and you need to make sure you follow those things up with gum or a mint. Remember guys, you are talking to these people a lot, so that’s going to wrap up.
Collect Information
Tip number two, tip number three. Now I did not do this one. I look back and wish I would have, I wish I would have gone around and got everyone’s emails and phone numbers and wrote down information about them. So I had a list of things I could follow up with these people with. So when you guys go out there and network trying, get their emails, try and get their phone numbers and get all that information that you need.
Be Authentic
The fourth thing I want to talk about is don’t just pitch. Be Authentic. So one of the problems when you go networking, a lot of times people are always like, well, what do you do? How can I be of service? How can I sell you my products or service? Now, when you’re networking, a lot of times don’t take this approach. This isn’t my approach. My approach is get to know the person, find out what they do for fun, be realistic and authentic. So that’s tip number four. Be Authentic and really try and get to know the person versus get to know their business.
Talk To Everyone
And tip number five is try and talk to everyone. There’s going to be a lot of people there. This particular event that we went to, we had 30 people and there’s a lot of people, but try and go around and get to know everyone the best you can. The more people you talk to, the more you get to know, and that is the goal of networking.
